“Calming the Storm”

June 25, 2023 | Rev. Jeremy Lawson
Passage: Mark 4:35-41

Not every story in the gospels about Jesus on the water paints a picture of smooth, care-free sailing. Take Mark 4, for example, in which, Jesus and the disciples are in a boat one night facing a “furious squall” that left the disciples scared to death. And yet where is Jesus? Fast asleep, curled up in the stern of the boat. Incredulously, the disciples yell at him, “Don’t you care that we’re drowning?” Sometimes life can feel like that for us, too, can’t it? Sometimes the wind and the waves feel so overwhelming that we can’t help but look to heaven and ask God, “Don’t you care that we’re drowning?” We’ll look at Jesus’ words of promise to everyone facing one of life’s many storms.
