Stewardship

Throughout this past year, I’ve found myself thinking a lot about our past and the countless ways God has proven faithful over our first two centuries together. Through every high and low, every season of joy and every season of challenge, one thing is certain: God has blessed Athens First UMC mightily so that we might be a blessing to others through our faithful witness and unwavering commitment to Christ.

Now, as we look toward 2026 and our 201st year of mission and ministry together, I’m convinced that God’s calling for us in the coming year is unmistakable. God is calling us to go deeper. Deeper in our faith. Deeper in our discipleship. Deeper in our relationships with one another, with God, and with our community. This new chapter isn’t simply about carrying forward a legacy; it’s about living boldly into our mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

On Sunday, September 7, we’re kicking off our 2025 Stewardship Series, “Going Deep, based on Hebrews 6:19: “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” Together, we’ll explore how God is calling us to go deeper in our faith and discipleship in the coming year.

On Sunday, October 5, we’ll celebrate Consecration Sunday with an amazing morning of worship, the opportunity to bring our 2026 pledge cards forward as an offering to God, and a churchwide celebration after both services outside in front of the sanctuary.

I hope that in the weeks ahead, you will prayerfully consider your financial pledge for the coming year. As always, my hope is that we’ll see our commitment as so much more than just a financial pledge for 2026, but a whole-hearted investment in the mission and vision God has given Athens First UMC through your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.

I look forward to celebrating all that God is doing at Athens First UMC and “Going Deep” in our faith and discipleship together this fall!
