Throughout the history of the church, Advent has been a season of preparation and anticipation as we await the arrival of our Savior. At Athens First, we invite you to join us this Advent as we celebrate Christmas together.

Sunday, November 30 – First Sunday of Advent Start the season with our Family Advent Breakfast, where we'll explore the meaning of Advent through Scripture and readings. We'll also light our Chrismon trees, a tradition that fills our sanctuary with symbols of Christ's love and prepares our hearts for His coming.

Sunday, December 7 – Lessons and Carols Join us for readings that trace God's promise from Creation to the Nativity, woven together with classic Christmas carols sung by our children, youth, and adult choirs.

Sunday, December 14 – Baby Recognition & Handel's "Messiah" At 11:00 a.m., we'll celebrate Baby Recognition, and our sanctuary will be filled with poinsettias in honor or memory of loved ones. That evening at 7:00 p.m., the AFUMC Sanctuary Choir, soloists, and orchestra will perform Handel's "Messiah," including "For Unto Us a Child is Born" and the "Hallelujah Chorus."

Sunday, December 21 – Fourth Sunday of Advent With Christmas just days away, we'll light the fourth candle of Advent, "Love," as we wait together in joyful anticipation.

Christmas Eve, December 24 We have four candlelight services:

  • 3:00 p.m. Children's Christmas Pageant
  • 5:00 p.m. Wesleyan Youth Choir and Brass Ensemble
  • 7:00 p.m. Sanctuary Choir and Brass Ensemble
  • 11:00 p.m. Holy Communion with Sanctuary Choir and Strings Ensemble

We all long for the hope, peace, joy, and love of Advent. This year, join us at Athens First as we discover how these promises come alive through the birth of Jesus.
