What is Fearfully and Wonderfully Made?
Fearfully and Wonderfully Made is a program that brings together preteens and parents to help foster and encourage important conversations around puberty, adolescence, bodies, reproduction, social media, and sexuality from a Christian perspective. Several different curriculums are being used to create what we are calling “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made” to talk candidly, faithfully, and in an age-appropriate manner on the topic of human sexuality.
This weekend is open to all current 5th-7th grade students.
Why Fearfully and Wonderfully Made?
The topic around puberty, adolescence, bodies, reproduction, and sexuality is not an easy conversation to have. It is an important conversation and hope that by offering this program, we are able to give you and your student resources to have the conversation, have tools, and that you and your student have other people in their lives to help guide you through this complicated time in their lives.
What to Expect during Fearfully and Wonderfully Made?
Fearfully and Wonderfully Made will take place Friday, July 28-Saturday, July 29 at Athens First UMC. It is expected that your student participates in all of the weekend, and it is required that at least one parent/guardian be present for the parent sessions that will take place during the weekend.
Students will learn all about puberty, adolescence, bodies, reproduction, and sexuality with boys and girls in the room together. They will be in table groups for activities and conversations, and those table groups will have adult leaders who will have gone through leadership training for the weekend.
Friday, July 28
7:00 p.m.-9:00 pm: Parent Session and Student Session
On Friday evening, the parent and student sessions will be separate. Parents will be in a session to learn more about what their student(s) will be learning on Saturday and a time to answer any questions. Students will be in a session that will give them a chance to get to know one another, and we will begin to learn more about how we are fearfully and wonderfully made by God.
Saturday, July 29
9:00 a.m.: Arrive at Church
12:00: Lunch Break
5:30 p.m.: Parent and Student Session with Dinner
Our time together on Saturday will involve digging deeper into puberty, adolescence, bodies, reproduction, social media, and sexuality. Your students will learn all about what is happening during puberty, the anatomy of their bodies, details of reproduction, social media, and more. Saturday evening, parents will rejoin us for dinner together and a few activities that will help you and your student communicate and process what was talked about over the course of the weekend.
The cost for Fearfully and Wonderfully Made is $50 per child. This cost will cover snacks, lunch on Saturday, dinner on Saturday night, program materials, and supplies for the weekend.
