Assistant Director of Kid's Ministry

    Athens First United Methodist Church is seeking an Assistant Director of Kid’s Ministry. The Assistant Director of Kids Ministry is responsible for attendance; Kids worship and small group supply preparation and assisting in the implementation of Sunday morning and Wednesday night children’s programming. For seasonal special events, the Assistant is responsible for recruiting team members and executing event plans. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for staffing and providing guidance to the Nursery Ministry of AFUMC. The Assistant provides direct support to the Athens First Kids Director and the Children’s Council. The person in this role is to be an integral part of the Family Ministries’ team.

    Qualifications:

    1) Commitment and devotion to the Christian mission of the United Methodist Church.

    2) Experience and passion serving children and helping them grow as disciples of Jesus Christ.

    3) Passion for inviting and supporting people to serve in Children’s Ministries.

    4) Children’s Ministry experience is preferred.

    5) A 4-year degree in Elementary Education, Christian Education or a related field is preferred.

    Skills Required:

    1) Ability to recruit, develop, and lead teams of student and adult volunteers.

    2) Ability to communicate the Gospel in a manner that children can understand.

    3) Ability to collaborate effectively with other church team leaders.

    4) Proficient with Microsoft Office and has ability to learn data base management skills.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Attendance

    1) Set up check in process for Sunday and Wednesday programming, including technology and printed rosters for leaders.

    2) Keep all check-in supplies well stocked.

    Nursery

    1) In collaboration with the Athens First Kids Director and Nursery Coordinator, maintain relationships with current nursery staff and recruit/train new and incoming nursery staff.

    2) Support the nursery area, Nursery Coordinator and Elementary programming during all services on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights.

    3) Lead two nursery team trainings per year in collaboration with the Nursery Coordinator.

    4) Confirm with Nursery Coordinator that nursery rooms and supplies are clean and prepared for programming on Sundays and Wednesdays then ready for weekday PreK the following morning.

    5) Prepare PreK lessons for Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights.

    Sunday morning and Wednesday night preparation

    1) Gather supplies for small and large group – PreK-5th.

    2) Assist Wednesday Night Kids after making sure the nursery is going well.

    3) Periodically check that volunteers and nursery staff are current on background checks and safe sanctuary training.

    4) Keep supply closets neat, tidy, and stocked.

    Special Events

    1) In collaboration with the Director, recruit volunteers for all programming.

    2) Lead the administrative tasks for VBS using church database and related software.

    3) Assist Director in planning and executing seasonal events including:

    o 3’s “Tell me the Stories.”

    o 2nd Grade Communion experience

    o Easter Extravaganza

    o Back to School Blessing Sunday

    o 3rd Grade Bibles

    o 5th Grade events

    o Advent Breakfast

    General

    1) Assist the Director of Athens First Kids with all Sunday morning and Wednesday night programming.

    2) Attend all Athens First Kids Council meetings, Family Ministry Team, & Staff meetings.

    3) Perform other tasks and activities as directed by the Athens First Kids Director.

    4) Collaborate with Athens First Kids and Athens First Preschool Directors to create clarity and continuity in programming and support.

    5) Advocate for children in the context of the whole church community of AFUMC, continually bringing to the forefront those issues that are important to the spiritual nurture of children.

    6) Model personal behavior and a lifestyle consistent with Christian faith and principles.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $35,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
