“Whoever welcomes this child in my name welcomes me...”
- Luke 9:47
As followers of Christ, we are all in the hospitality business. At Athens First United Methodist Church, our goal is to make all of our members and guests feel welcome when they walk through our doors. There are many different ways to be involved in the Welcome Ministry of our church.
We have a large building with many ever-evolving programs. The best source of information is The Steeple weekly newsletter. Upcoming announcements and ways to be involved are shared each week.
Take a tour
Even if you have been a member for years, you are encouraged to take our Newcomer Orientation tour and learn more about that is going on in our church. The more we know, the more helpful we are to our guests!
Serve in Welcome Ministry
Join the Greeter Team
Greeters have the special ability to make everyone feel welcome. Those on the greeter team typically serve four to six times a year. Greeters arrive to worship services a few minutes early and help direct guests, as well as offering a friendly welcome to all. If you can share a smile, you can be a greeter!

Lead Newcomer Orientation
Leading a Newcomer Orientation and tour is a great way to meet and get to know our guests. Tours last roughly 30 minutes and are held at 9:45 and 11:00 a.m. every second Sunday of the month. Tours consist of walking around our building and explaining the different ministries at Athens First United Methodist Church. Before you give a tour, you will receive training from a veteran tour guide.
