Smart Lunch, Smart Kid

Athens First United Methodist Church partners with Action Ministries during the summer months of June and July to distribute mid-day meals through Smart Lunch, Smart Kid. More than 1 million children in Georgia schools receive free or reduced-price lunch, a crucial meal that disappears in the summer. Smart Lunch, Smart Kid, through the dedication of thousands of volunteers and donors, ensures that these children are fed and have educational interaction with members of the community. Typically, feeding programs require participants to travel to receive meals. With this Smart Lunch, Smart Kid, the challenge of transportation is removed as we are invited into Athens neighborhoods to offer each child (up to 18 years old) lunch. We hope you will join us this summer as we spend time with the children in our community.

How to Serve:

Our church partners with Action Ministries on Wednesdays to serve two nearby neighborhoods lunch. We split into two groups, each taking a church van (when available), and meet the children and families on the playground of each neighborhood. While there, we invite children to participate in educational games/activities and sit with them while they enjoy their lunch. It is a wonderful way to share God's love with the children in our community.

If you would like to volunteer, please register below. We would love to have you serve with us as many weeks as you are able.
