Hope Rises on the Wings of Gratitude
“May the God of Hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
When you look for hope, you will find it in the practice of gratitude. Giving thanks to God renews our hope.
Veterans Day is November 11. It always makes me pause and give thanks for the service given, and the sacrifices made so that we might be free. I like to take time and lift them up to God. I send out a thank you to family and friends who have served as well as those currently serving. When my nephew Nick was in Afghanistan, I sent him a text and he responded at 3:23 a.m. with two words: Thank you. I felt my hope rising.
Hope is a close companion to gratitude. When we are grateful, our hopes rise. I remember a young woman who took time to write a thank you letter to her mother, who was a single mom. She wrote to her mom, “Thank you. I don’t know how you did it, but if I could be even half the mom you are, I would be so happy.” Parenting is hard on a good day, but oh my, what hopes filled them both after such an outpouring of thanksgiving. Try it in the course of your day. You’ll discover that hope rises on the wings of gratitude.
