God’s Power Over Sin

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

God will continuously work to bring back together the good work that God began on this earth. Since the fall in the garden long ago, humanity has shown our propensity to walk in the ways of sin and death. The grip of the evil enemy is a powerful force that opposes God’s good work in this world. But I am confident that the enemy fears the name of Jesus. The life, death, and resurrection of Jesus articulate God’s vision to have our lives completely transformed and ridden from the curse of sin. For in the resurrection of Christ from the grave of death, we can clearly see God’s determination to have sin and death to be ultimately destroyed so that blessing, righteousness, and life can replace them and the whole creation be renewed. I give thanks for God’s resurrection power over sin!

The resurrection of Jesus Christ shows that resurrection cannot be achieved by our own merits, it must be achieved through and in Christ. Thus, eternal life is possible not because of our own doing, but because of the grace of God and God’s power over sin. It is God who chose to restore the broken relationship with humanity. It is God who breathes new life into dry bones, as Ezekiel proclaimed long ago. It is God who sent Jesus—God enfleshed—to make way for life eternal life and relationship with God. For as Jesus said in John’s Gospel, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.” Glory to God!
